[Could you tell us a little bit about your book?]

Claro!

[Of course! The name is "The Sleeping City", a novel about love and death, fear and redemption, invisible bindings and what might happen after life. A young writer is tormented by  terrible nightmares, and he realizes, that it’s the dramatic life and death of his grand-grandfather he keeps on dreaming of. The whole story is very atmospheric, haunting and suspensful, because the dead ancestor is still existent in a parallel world, a bizarre, dark and morbid city. Both characters, in the now and the beyond, start to search each other, and finally they meet with the help of Leni, a clairvoyant young woman who is able to look into both worlds. A very unusual family saga on the background of the whole 20th century, where reader as well as the main characters lern, how much the historical events influence their whole life, and how love between the generations conjures problems and heals the soul as well.]

[Does it reflects a little bit your work as a psychologist?]

Sim, claro.

Yes, indeed. I am hypnotherapist and systemic therapist.  It has become an important part of my work to look on the family history, because the inner script oft he soul is strongly influenced by all dramatic things happened in the past, just like important psychotherapists like Ivan Boszormenyi-Nagy or Mara Selvini-Palazzoli described in their books. For our unconscious mind, death does not exist – our ancestors are still around us, because we think oft them, have learned from them, maybe by watching patterns, but also fears or taboos from our parents and grandparents. So many people are carrying heavy loads who really belong to others. Those identifications can be solved by looking on the past. All I did in my novel is to write down how it would be if the dead REALLY would be here, and what they would do, if they could see what their grandchildren experience; maybe caring, guarding, saving, ... and beeing glad when their descendants are well.

[In our point of view you are a true artist: not only in writing but also in painting. Can you please tell us if it is easy for you to combine the two?]

I believe, like Irvin Yalom, good psychotherapy is a kind of arts and crafts. It is very closed together. C. G. Jung always worked with art and symbols, Milton Erickson told figurative stories instead of prosing theories to his clients. Many psychological books use caricatures to make things better understandable. I started as an artist, I have drawn pictures as long as I can think. So it is not only easy to combine art and psychotherapy, there is no other way for me.

[We know that you also like to combine psychology to art. Can you explain to our to readers how do you do that?]

Showing pictures, listening to music, watching movies or telling stories are magnificient techniques of  doing therapy! It is fun, intensive, in depth, and much more effective than boring theoretical conversations.  I think, humans are more emotional than intellectual, we need pictures and stories to understand.

[How did you had the idea for your cards: Masters of psychotherapy? (Buy them here - http://www.mastersofpsychotherapy.de

That is a very old idea, for I already made caricatures of my teachers in school, and even a deck of cards with them. I just picked up this idea. Jeff Zeig, a friend of mine, liked the cards very much and encouraged me to complete it. I will do an enhanced version fort he upcoming convention „evolution of psychotherapy“ this year.

[“Will you be able to live without writing?”]

Sim seria. Penso que iria desenhar mais. Mas sem me poder expressar ficaria deprimido.

Ow. Yes, I will. I think I would draw more pictures instead. But without expressing myself I would get depressive.

[What would you like us to ask to our next interviewee?]

What do you regret most you have NOT done till now?
